Praise God for small improvements. While we are still on the vent there is a slight improvement in lungs. We have also been able to completely cut blood pressure meds out and up the removal of excess fluid via dialysis. As for the main issue, the liver, we are still facing challenges. We believe he has developed veno occlusive disease meaning he has clots in the liver which has caused a reverse in blood flow. This is indicated by increased liver numbers. Dads liver numbers did climb last night but only by 2 points which is an improvement from the 5-6 point jump from the past couple of nights. The problem with treatment is that the normal protocol to correct the liver issues is not an option bc his platelets are too low for any invasive procedures. HOWEVER, there is a trial going on up here at Childrens of a new medication to treat VOD. Our case has been submitted to the UAB internal review board and we BELIEVE we will be approved and can get the meds overnighted from TX to start tomorrow! We just have to hang on until then! Dad is very heavily sedated bc he is trying to breathe over the vent. However he did wake up a good bit last night to communicate with mom and Kas....actually enough to shake his head no when Kas asked if he had converted to an AU fan yet! Please pray for these specific requests: 1. Continued steady blood pressure for removal of toxins and fluid via dialysis. 2. Continued improvement in lungs. 3. That the UAB IRB will move with haste in pushing the paperwork through so we can secure the trial meds for dads liver. 4. For Divine intervention in dads liver and an improvement in numbers even prior to the trial med. We know God has his hand on dad! Thank you for all the support! Believe. Receive. Go Home!
