Praise be to Allah. ●|● Fasting Six Days in Shawwal ●|● Abu Ayyub Ansari [ra] narrated from the Prophet [pbuh] said: “Whoever fasts Ramadhan then followsit with six days of [fasting in] Shawwal, it is as if he fasted a lifetime.” Muslim 1164. According to the formula there is a minimum ten-fold reward for every virtue, the saum of one month of [Ramadhan] is equivalent to the saum of ten months. If one also observe the six days of saum of Shawwal, they will equal to saum of two months. Thus, one becomes eligible for the reward of one full year’s first. He who makes it as a permanent features is like one who observes saum throughout his life. He will be considered by Allah as one who observes saum permanently. One can observe these six-day saum at nature, they are highly important. One can observe these six-day saum at a stretch or with intervals, but their observance one after the other at the beginning of the month is better. Similarly, if a person has missed some saum of Ramadhan due to illness, travelling etc., he should first make up the shortfall and then observe the voluntary six-days of Shawwal. Thawban narrated that the Prophet [pbuh] said: “Whoever fasts six days after the Fitr will have completed the year, for whoever does a good deed will have the reward of ten like it.” Ibn Majah 1715 ●● What is disliked of Fasting ●● It is prohibitted to fast continuously and fast on Friday & Saturday, conditions apply. Explanations are as follows: Abu Hurairah [ra] narrated that the Messenger of Allah, [pbuh] said: “Do not single out the night of Friday for fasting unless that concides with a fast that one [habitually] observes.” Muslim 1143, 1144. Jawairiyah bint Al-Harith [ra] narrated: “The Prophet [pbuh] visited her [Jawairiyah] on a Friday and she was observing Saum. He asked her: “Did you observe saum yesterday?” She said: “No.” He said: “Do you intend to observe saum tomorrow?” She said: “No.” He said: “Then break your fast.” Bukhari 1986. The Messenger of Allah, [pbuh] said: “Verily the day of Al-Jumu’ah is your Eid, so do not fast it unless you fast [a day] before it or [a day] after it.” Al-Bazzar and its chain of narration is good. It has a basis for it in Al-Bukhari and Muslim. The Messenger of Allah, [pbuh] also said: “Do not fast Saturday, except for that which has been made obligatory upon you. And if one of you cannot find anything but the skin of a grape or the stick of a tree, then he should chew it [on Saturday instead of fasting].” Abu Dawud, At-Tirmishi, An-Nasa’I, Ibn Majah, and At-Tirmidhi said it was Hasan. Beloved Prophet [pbuh] said: “Do not practice Al-Wisal [continued fasting].” Bukhari. And His [pbuh] statement: “Beware of practicing Al-Wisal [continued fasting].” Bukhari & Muslim And His [pbuh] statement: “He has not fasted who always fasts.” Muslim. Moreover, beloved the Messenger of Allah, [pbuh] said: “Whoever always fasts [i.e., everyday], then he has not fasted nor he has broken his fast.” Ahmad & An-Nasa’I, who said it is sahih. May the Almighty forgive our shortcomings. JazakAllahu Khair. Admin Muhammad.
