Praise for the Day August 28, 2014 Hebrews 10:24-25 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. I like heterogenous groups. Those are groups made up of people who are different than each other. I know, we are all different, unique, special in the eyes of God and men. Work with me here. When I taught school, I used learning centers. As a matter of fact, I love learning centers because of the academic and social skills that were developed during the implementation of center time. Properly conceived and practiced, centers will provide practice in more areas in a shorter time than a teacher could cover in the same number of minutes. Students learn to follow directions, learn to work together and independently, and centers even lower the discipline problems in a classroom. Every year, something would happen that would never fail to amaze me. I placed students with varying abilities in each group. As I would observe or help with one group, a student with ‘lesser ability’ would be able to figure out something the others could not solve. The poor reader might be better in logic or math than the best reader. That student rarely gets to shine in a large classroom but in a small group, she can be a leader. The boost to that child’s self-esteem was beyond anything I could have contrived. We practiced pointing out positive accomplishments so everyone was recognized for their abilities. That recognition made everyone try harder and work to complete the center projects. The writer of Hebrews could have been a primary grade teacher but more likely, he was an observer of human nature. He realized that the more we encourage each other, the more will be accomplished for the kingdom of God. Do you have a card, a phone, an e-mail address or a FaceBook account? Of course you do, you are reading this! Let someone know right now how much you appreciate what he or she is doing for the kingdom? Think of someone who probably is not usually recognized, like the person who cleans up the kitchen after every gathering or the one who takes care of the yard. How about the one who takes communion to shut-ins? Spur them on to continued good works. Then do some more of your own!
