Praise for the Day January 11, 2015 Ephesians 4:32 Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. My husband and I share a bed. We share a bank account. We share our grandchildren--most of the time. We share germs unless I can avoid it. We do not share a bathroom. I think it has preserved our marriage. I use the bathroom in the hall near the kitchen, in some homes considered a guest bath. It has a stool, sink, and a closet with my hair products, tools, and make-up. He uses the bathroom across from our bedroom. It has a sink, toilet, and shower/tub, which I use, so I have to be in there once in a while. I also have to clean it so I know what happens in there and what does not happen. I will try to phrase this delicately. What is supposed to be hit is not always hit; what is supposed to be missed is not always missed. This includes toothpaste, facial hair stuff from the razor….and other things. Truly a first world problem. Last week I started the dishwasher. That should be a non-event in any household. This time, we heard gurgling where there should not have been gurgling. We heard sounds coming from DH’s bathroom toilet. We responded with our usual plan of attack on household calamities. We ignored it, hoping it would not happen again. But it did. This time the gurgling sound came from the tub. Nothing came out but the sound was definitely there. The next morning I took action. I started the hot water running in both bathroom sinks. The general plan is to run the hot water until the hot water heater is almost drained then begin to use the plunger on the sinks because somewhere in the pipes there is a clog or back up. I always start in DH’s bathroom because that is where the problem usually arises. The man does not know how to keep a tidy bath. I started on the sink, stopping up the porcelator, the little hole in the back of the sink. (I know because I did an internet search.) Then I ran a sink full of water and started plunging. It is awkward and a few nasty black flecks were pulled back up from the pipes. Then I moved to my bathroom sink. It was good that I arrived when I did because the sink was full of water, almost to the porcelator. Hurriedly, I started to plunge and a few black flecks appeared. Then a lot of black flecks appeared. Finally, the bottom of the sink was pretty much filled with black gunk that had come from my pipes. The irony of the situation was not missed by me. I was sure I knew where the problem was. It was my husband’s poor cleaning habits. He was causing the pipes to be clogged. But he wasn’t. It was my sink where the nasty, hidden clog was lurking but, first, I blamed him. First, I need to forgive others because there might be a time that my sins will be plunged from their hidden places. Then I will be needing that forgiveness.
