Praveen Bala case #Why wasn’t a bench warrant issued against Praveen Bala for failing to appear in court? asks former Attorney General Anand Singh. Mr Singh says Bala had broken his bail conditions by failing to appear in court. His commitment to court should come first: “Considering that his liberty was granted on the basis that he attends court when required to do so,” Mr Singh said. Praveen Bala faces a very serious criminal charge of causing death through dangerous driving. He was due to appear in Lautoka Court yesterday but his Counsel told the Court that Bala could not attend because he had to deliver his address in parliament yesterday. This is no justification for his non-Court appearance. He could have easily re-scheduled his parliamentary intervention to make sure he attended Court. Just another cause for delay, Mr Bala? Another example of double standards??? The case has already been deferred three times on the flimsy excuse that a magistrate could not be found to hear the case. Bala was allowed to fight the elections even though found ineligible by the Electoral Commission. And what about the bereaved family of the person who died as a result of Bala’s “dangerous driving” as charged, and their search for justice and closure to this tragic affair?
