Pray but...work too. So...a dear friend posted something on her wall some days back, revolved around praying for Nigeria for a change, rather than complaining. In as much as I agree with the call, the premise of the piece is to me, somewhat flawed. Is prayer all we need for a change? I mean with brain in our heads, and feet in our shoes, do we think all were expected to do is lazily sit back, and pray for manna from Heaven? Would a reasonable job seeker pray before his credentials daily, perhaps, for a befitting job to locate him, instead of going out there to get a job while committing his movements to God who seeth all effort? Should we rather get on with some actions already or stick to ardent prayers, with our arms folded and our heads high on hopes? If we really want a change in our society, in Africa, then we must get out there and push for it, start living for change, be committed to evolving change and not just sit at home, in our offices, hoping for a miraculous change. God is neither blind nor silly, in the rules of the universe, He helps those who help themselves. Prayer cannot be substituted for action, - we must work well enough even as we pray! David didnt just pray in the field of battle with Goliath, he committed to action too through his catapult. What do you think would have been his fate if all he did was knelt down to pray? America, China are some countries recognised for their enviable economy, but you need not be told that neither is as religiously involved as we Nigerians or Africans by large are. They of course pray, but work their very best too to sustain such height having grown to the comprehension that prayer works best with aligned actions. Moving on, do a little exercise, lock your car, toss away the keys to a distant place, and try using prayer. Seeing no results, pray even harder. Pray Until something Happens (PUSH), they say, but I tell you, no matter how hard you heed this now, you will sweat to your pants praying, while someone else picks up the keys, inserts, turns and then open! Dont get me wrong, prayer builds our relationship with God, is the practice of the presence of God, the privilege of touching the heart of the Father through the Son of God, Jesus our Lord and in fact, is one of the Strongest Master Keys of life. The idea of it however, being the master key at all time, is merely an analogy found in our Sunday school song book, composed by a clueless writer. You just cant sit at home praying for your country to get better and expect results without efforts to achieve this betterment. We must apply principles. The right principles rightly applied, works like the right key rightly used to unlock the right door. Although, sometimes, the right key may be prayers, but do not expect God to insert the key for us. Most of those who clamour for a better Nigeria, collect bribes during elections, extort from the poor masses and even deprive them of certain fundamental rights. We must commit to action just as much as we commit to prayer before expecting the desired results. 2 Corinthians 1:20 For all the promises of God in him are Yes, and in him Amen, to the glory of God by US. God will never be found wanting on His promises, but we must digest the second part on this passage - it is through US that the glory is given to God and the promise is attained. For a change, for outstanding results, in our countries, in our lives, our families and situations, we must work right, and pray right, without substituting either for the other. #Namatse...♥
