Pray this prayer with understanding, rather than rhetoric. FORGIVE US OUR TRESPASSES AS WE FORGIVE - Matt 6:12 Many of us have prayed it more than we care to remember, many of us have sang it, and actually felt Heavens opening up...yet in the same minute or time we walk with unforgiveness, we praise and worship in with unforgiveness in our hearts. Forgive us our trespasses is the fifth of the seven petitions in the Lords prayer (the first 3 address God, the second 4 are prayers related to our needs and concerns) This is a conditional prayer, we ask God to forgive US as we forgive OTHERS...have we ever contemplated what happens with our forgiveness whilst we are not forgiving others... The root meaning in the Greek of the word forgiveness is to free or to dismiss. I submit today that if we dont forgive, if we do not set free, neither are we forgiven or set free. We cannot continue making God a liar by forgiving us or setting us free when we dont set others free. This petitionforgive us...as we forgive, sets a tone of a condition precedent. Condition precedent refers to an event or state of affairs that is required before something else will occur. In contract law, a condition precedent is an event which must occur first, unless its non-occurrence is excused, before performance under a contract becomes due. Spiritually, this means that by uttering this petition, we are entering into a covenant with God, that He must forgive us because we have forgiven, that He must set us free because we have set others free. Until we set others free, God must then not set us free because we fail to perform our end of the deal. For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses - Matt 6:14-15 My beloved dont walk in bondage which you yourself have set up. CHOOSE TO BE FREE AND FREE INDEED - FORGIVE.
