Prayer and the Word Acts 6:4 “But we will give ourselves continually to prayer and the ministry of the Word.” (NKJV) July 29, 2013 Standing Before the Lord Scripture Reading of the Day: 2nd Corinthians 5:1 – 11 Scripture Verses of the Day: 2nd Corinthians 5:10 – “10For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.” In our scripture reading today, Paul shares the realization of resurrection and the fact that we will all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. As I get older, I find myself looking forward to going home to be with the Lord versus staying here in our present evil world. I also look forward too there being no more pain. The greatest thing I look forward too is meeting Jesus face to face and telling Him, “Thank you for dying and rising again for me. I can never repay what He has done for me and all of us who know Him as their own personal Lord and Saviour. The first thing Paul says in verse ten is, “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ…” What Paul is talking about here has nothing to do with salvation, but how we live our lives once we accept Jesus as our own personal Lord and Saviour. Jesus talking to His disciples in Matthew 16:27 says, “For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will reward each according to his works.” Luke share this thought in Acts 10:42, “And He commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that it is He who was ordained by God to be Judge of the living and the dead.” Paul tells us about God’s righteous judgment in Romans chapter two, and says this in verse sixteen, “In the day when God will judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ, according to my gospel.” Paul says again in Romans 14:10b and verse 12, “…For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.” – “So then each one of us shall give account of himself to God.” As we think about standing before the Lord, we need to realize that this fact is a reality. This should affect our every day actions in relationship to others who cross our paths. Dr. John Marshall has said many times, “Holiness matters most!” We need to take this idea to heart especially in the light of there is coming a day that we will stand before the Lord. Prayer: Lord, give us the desire to live our lives in the light of God’s word that we may seek to please Him in all we do.
