Prayers please for Grant County and for John Day, threatened by wildfires: Beth Spell of St. Thomas, Canyon City sent this message this evening, asking for prayers for John Day and for Grant County. She wrote, "Many, many lightning-caused fires, and three within just a couple of miles or closer to John Day. Wind is blowing and more thunder is expected. Several fires burned right up to the edge of town yesterday. Large fire retardant planes are working nonstop this evening." O God, merciful and compassionate, who art ever ready to hear the prayers of those who put their trust in thee; Graciously hearken to us who call upon thee, and grant us thy help in this our need; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. --
