Praying Them Home “The prayer of faith is the only power in the universe to which the Great Jehovah yields. Prayer is the sovereign remedy.” Robert Hall Several years ago God impressed upon the heart of an Atlanta-based adoptive mother the God-sized dream of praying 100 orphaned children into families. God built this ordinary woman into a mighty prayer warrior. She remained steadfast to this high calling, and after 10 years she was able to record the name of the 100th child that God had placed in a loving family as a direct result of her obedience to pray. As adoption advocates we can promote orphans, serve them, and give financially, all good things. But the power to move mountains, to move broken children into healing homes, is in God’s hands alone. We know from scripture (John 3:16) that God’s heart is for the orphan, because He allowed the sacrifice of His only begotten Son in order to adopt us, broken children who were far from Him and desperate for a Heavenly Father. He folded us into His family BECAUSE HE WANTED TO, not because we deserved it. We know that God is near to the brokenhearted. He binds up their wounds. (Psalm 147:3) And yet millions of children around the world languish in orphanages and on the streets, without families. As the hands and feet of Christ, it is our Biblical mandate to serve “the least of these”, those that the world has cast aside and given up on. And the key that unlocks the power that saves and redeems is PRAYER. What we TRULY believe about prayer will determine the course of human history and the course of the orphan’s life. If we believe that the unfortunate fate of orphans is sealed and that the orphan crisis is simply beyond redemption, then we will never intercede with FAITH, and thus never tap into God’s great power. But if we come before the throne anticipating miracles, we will SURELY be instruments in the hand of God to bring about eternal change. I personally have witnessed many orphans with extreme special needs in the most remote corners of the world find families as a result of the consistent, ferverent, miracle-believing prayers of ordinary people. Believing the lies of the enemy is our ONLY barrier to seeing God’s power unleashed through prayer. Ask The Lord of the harvest to lay one orphan on your heart, and pray God’s promises over that child until redemption comes. It is time for the Lord’s army to rise up and go to battle on our knees on behalf of these precious ones. If not us, then who? The potency of prayer hath subdued the strength of fire; it had bridled the rage of lions, hushed the anarchy to rest, extinguished wars, appeased the elements, expelled demons, burst the chains of death, expanded the gates of heaven, assuaged diseases, repelled frauds, rescued cities from destruction, stayed the sun in its course, and arrested the progress of the thunderbolt. Prayer is an all-efficient panoply, a treasure undiminished, a mine which is never exhausted, a sky unobscured by clouds, a heaven unruffled by the storm. It is the root, the fountain, the mother of a thousand blessings.—Chrysostom Cannot the same wonders be done now as of old? Do not the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth still to show Himself strong on behalf of those who put their trust in Him? Oh that God would give me more practical faith in Him! Where is now the Lord God of Elijah? HE IS WAITING for Elijah to call on Him. — James Gilmour of Mongolia
