Pre-registration for the Sept. 7 Fun Run/Walk closes Sept. 3. The Black Hills Symphony Orchestra — approaching the launch of its 80th concert season — will host its 27th annual Fun Run/Walk on Sunday, Sept. 7, in Rapid City’s Memorial Park. Registration will begin at noon in the bandshell, and the race will begin at 1:30 p.m. All proceeds will support the BHSO’s 80th season. Participants may compete in a variety of age divisions over one-mile and 5K distances, or just have a pleasant stroll with friends. Members of the BHSO and other local musicians will perform along the way, and water stops will be set up along the gentle bike-path route. Refreshments will be provided after the race. Prizes for race winners include BHSO series tickets and coupons, and every participant is eligible for door prizes contributed by numerous local race sponsors. A trophy will be awarded to the school with the most participants in any combination of events; prizes will be given for the oldest and youngest participants; and if 15 employees from a single company participate, a 2014-15 student chair will be named for that company. Registration forms are available at the Runner’s Shop, 41 E. Omaha; and the Black Hills Piano Gallery at its new location, 2201 Jackson; or may be downloaded from the BHSO website, bhsymphony.org. Pre-registration entries must be received by 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, at the Runner’s Shop. Pre-registrants are guaranteed a t-shirt on race day. Pre-registration fees are $15 for participants 13 or older, and $10 for those 12 and under. Race day registration is $20 for those 13 and older, and $10 for those 12 and under. 2014 Fun Run/Walk sponsors include Banfield, the Pet Hospital; Ponderosa Sportswear; Security First Bank; Spizzirri Press, Inc.; Lecy Family Chiropractic; BES Lighting and Home; Road ID; Armadillo’s; Watertree; Krull’s Market; and Black Hills Timing Co. For additional information, contact Nancy Olney at 342-4772 or the BHSO office at 348-4676.
