Precious life. One minute there is air flowing trhough your lungs. The next...only God knows. What were the men in Syria thinking as they marched through the desert in their underwear, their hands behind their heads? Could they even see the man in front of them or behind them? Did they thank God for their lives up to this point? Could they feel His presence? Did they cry out, if only in their broken hearts, Jesus, remember me when you come in Your kingdom? Were they bitter toward the militants who were so callously following orders, and in seemingly good spirits, as the second-hand of their lives ticked away? LORD, we cannot turn our heads from the evil that has infiltrated the hearts of man. We walk through our comfy lives and ignore the pleas of the those who are being led to the end of their earthly lives. We grieve for the family of our own executed journalist as his head is removed from his body. We hurt for a second as we sip on our Starbucks. On Fridays as we head to the local gathering place for a happy hour with friends to celebrate another week, another paycheck, young boys across the world, the Friday spectacle as it has become known, are standing bound in public squares, hordes of them, as their families are forced to keep their eyes open and watch their loved ones being decapitated. As we lift our glasses of wine in celebration, evil is waving flags and rejoicing over yet another inhumane act of violence. Grieve our hearts so that we do not turn our heads once again as Your children are being led like animal to a slaughter. LORD, that we do not harden our hearts as to ignore our part in this story. LORD, this chapter is a hard one to walk through. You have written the Book. We trust the author of our lives Please write in BOLD and underline our responsibility as the world goes crazy. We trust that You will put the promptings in our hearts for our next steps. In Jesus precious precious name. Amen and amen.
