Preet K S Bedi observed this morning Lets hope we can see the day soon when breakfast in Amritsar can be followed by a mid morning coffee at Lahore and a six hour drive to Rawalpindi. Spend the night at Pindi, visit Gordon College where dad graduated from, roam the streets and breathe the air, take pictures, talk to old timers and ruminate on the hundreds of stories about Pindi that one heard as a child. Drive to Murree in a day or two, compare it with Shimla, abuse the traffic, check into a hotel and imbibe the beer. Spend a couple of days there and drive back through Chakwal where dad did his High School and Padshahan where he lived as a child. Another day or two at Lahore and enjoy the Pak hospitality, take a detour to Nankana Sahib and back home. Synchronistically I had come across this blog post I have appended below. The other day Aamir had posted a note on Taj and I had thought, something which they consider so close to their psyche, and historically a part of their heritage, how much would they have liked a free access to visit Agra? How much would we have liked to visit Mohenjo Daro? I would have loved to visit the northern regions and marvelled at the similarity with Ladakh. Harpreet posted on a log jam of traffic to Leh. Figures couple of years old state Bhutan saw a growth of +39%, Sri Lanka +31% and Nepal +22% growth in tourism. India was comparatively lower at a 9% increase. Pakistan recorded 3.9% growth in 2010. Has anyone estimated the potential earning of free flow of tourism in the subcontinent Sunny? SAARC continues to make working groups while the boundaries continue to remain high. Can one imagine such as day as Preet mused?
