Preliminary findings on why Ekiti-Yoruba defied the odds and voted - TopicsExpress

Preliminary findings on why Ekiti-Yoruba defied the odds and voted Fayose. I take strong exception to this your misplaced and outrightly jaundiced position that it was rice that was used to buy Ekiti people. If it is joke, stop it. How much of the political nuances of that state do you know? Have you ever done a demographic analysis of how people vote in that state? Have you done a research on things that influence elections in the state? I am from Ekiti State and if I was to vote, I was not likely to vote for Fayose, but when I travelled home in February, I was already aware that Fayemi could not win that election. Yet, as at this time, Fayose had not even been picked by PDP. Fayemi has mortal enemies in teachers and civil servants in the state. And you cannot offend this class of voters (who form about 45% of voting population in Ekiti) and expect to win any election. Between yesterday and today, I have made over FIFTY calls and as at 6pm yesterday, teachers were said to be going from house to house to convince people to vote for Fayose. Fayemi does NOT have any political structure to win election. He did not start his politics from grassroots. He was foisted on the party by Tinubu and former Governor Niyi Adebayo to compensate for his role in NADECO. He was never in touch with Assembly members and did not conduct local government election which is what you use to build political loyalists that run party cells across the villages. He could have used the election to install his loyalists in the local governments and keep using them to oil party machinery. They do things he wont be able to do like popping up during peoples weddings, funerals, birthday bashes and delivering messages from the governor to the celebrants. They will call him outside and place a call to the governor to say hi to the celebrants and by so doing, you build supporters base. This is real politicking. It complements whatever you do in terms of physical infrastructure. Fayemi did not do any of this. In almost four years, he did not hold FIVE meetings with the House of Assembly caucus. These are the guys that people have access to. The moment a governor is sworn-in, he becomes almost inaccessible to the common man. It is political foot soldiers that keep the job going. Back to the issue of rice, may be you didnt know, the two of them shared rice. In fact, Fayemi even nearly did more in the last minute. So, please, lets get our facts right before taking positions.
