When: Wednesday, August 7, 2013 Time: 8:30 a.m. (Breakfast will be provided) Where: Watkins Glen Area Chamber of Commerce (214 N. Franklin St., Watkins Glen, NY 14891) The presentation will cover the following topics: • The Problem: Rising Premiums • Rate Review in New York • What does this have to with the ACA? • What small businesses can do to keep insurance rates down. If you would like to attend this free and informative session, please RSVP with Victoria Young at victoria@watkinsglenchamber or call the chamber (607) 535-4300. In April, the Chamber announced that President/CEO Rebekah LaMoreaux and Membership Services Manager Victoria Young are now the trained “go to” representatives in the organization for members stumped by the federal healthcare reform bill, Affordable Care Act (ACA). LaMoreaux was initially alerted by her local Assemblyman to the new Small Business Assistance Program, administered by the Community Service Society of New York. LaMoreaux co-applied with the Tompkins County Chamber of Commerce and won a $7,500 grant to assist businesses throughout the county on the topic. As part of the grant requirements, the Chamber must make five presentations throughout the county and conduct individual counseling sessions with small business owners. The purpose is to educate businesses on the benefits and responsibilities under the ACA. LaMoreaux and Young attended a two-day training session in Albany and will take part in continuing monthly training to keep up on the act’s implications. ACA was enacted two years ago to help states set up health insurance exchanges to allow individuals and small businesses to shop and enroll into health coverage.
