Prep Volleyball listed Southlake Carroll as number 14 in the nation! Southlake Carroll (Southlake, Texas) Last year’s record: 47-4; 2012 final ranking: 33 After two straight near misses, this could be the breakthrough year for coach Arthur Stanfield’s Dragons. The team is loaded with talented seniors who have a lot of playoff experience. And several are coming off a gold medal performance at this summer’s USAV national championships. All-Texas libero Cat McCoy leads what should be a shut-down back row, especially with the addition of Mykah Wilson, who transferred from Aledo. She can add a little pop as well. As usual, it’s not a big team but there is a ton of firepower led by Christen Sikora and Timarie Nmeyer. Look for newcomer Madison Drescher to add size and punch to the attack. The team had been counting on Maiya Burns as an additional weapon, but she is lost for the season with an ACL. One key will be setting, where Audrey Alford and Katie Martin return. If they can keep opposing defenses on the run, the Dragons will be hard to stop. Carroll is 8-1 to start the year, with wins over nationally-ranked Clear Falls, Reagan and Churchill and a lone loss, in the Pearland semifinals, to No.11 The Woodlands.
