Prepare yourself to meet natures ultimate actor, the eastern hog nose snake! This footage is from Eddie Carter, now he is being rather tactile with this snake, but hes doing it to demonstrate how this snake has this incredible behavior of first pretending hes larger-than-life, the old-fashioned puff adder of legends told. although it rarely bites in defense, it is important to note that it does have rear fangs which are primarily used to kill and pop bloated toads that it eats. here we see him pretending to be something akin to a cobra, with a bark a lot more dramatic than its bite. Then, incredibly, when being a bully doesnt work the snake does the ultimate, it actually plays dead, complete with foul smells and rigor mortis! I should note that after this demonstration the snake was released unharmed. Incidentally, everyone always asks me what is my favorite species of snake, youre looking at it, I have loved hognose snakes since I was a little kid!
