Preparing a written statement on my entries into Gizas Tomb of the Birds and its previously unrecorded cave system on four occasions in 2008. It could form part of a high profile legal case against those who were aware of what was happening and should have reported our investigations to the correct higher authorities at the time. All this has come about as a result of the three Germans accused of defacing hieroglyphs in the Great Pyramid being convicted and sentenced in absentia yesterday to five years imprisonment for illegally exporting a few milligrams of red ochre paint for testing. The six Egyptian officials and tour guides that helped them to get permits to enter both the Great Pyramid and, earlier the same day, the Tomb of the Birds are also now behind bars. I am caught in serious crossfire between the old guard at Giza, including Dr Dr. Zahi Hawass, and those who want to see him and his associates behind bars, so I have to tread very carefully indeed, and cooperate fully with the Egyptian authorities.
