Prequel: Let me just state I am highly observant and over analyze. Hypothesis: In store customer corn husking generates extra store sales vs. not allowing it. Reason: Today the district manager said some stores at the chain I work at are removing corn barrels, for customers to shuck corn into, since they become an over flowing eye sore. Prehusking speeds up sugar loss and makes the ear a bit tougher, if its not fresh. This is a known fact but . . Goal: As a supermarket we want to keep customers in the store, adding more items to their basket. My hypothesis that in store customer corn husking cause extra sales: Scenario One Observations: If a customer stops to shuck corn and sends a child, companion, or friend out to grab another item, to make them productive/helpful, would have that item been bought if your not stopping to shuck, instead of a grab and go. That second shopper separated from the herd may grab one additional impulse item on route across the store and back. Scenario Two Observation: As the person stands there husking they are getting more views of nearby/tie in items they need or want. Thoughts anyone?
