President Goodluck Jonathan records more successes in two years than Predecessors -----Premium Times Published: September 6, 2013 The group listed the achievements of the Jonathan administration. A group of Kalabari people in the Diaspora have said that President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration had recorded more successes in two years when compared to his predecessors since the country’s independence. Acting under the auspices of “Concerned Kalabari in the Diaspora for Jonathan 2015,’’ the group said in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria in New York on Thursday, that a lot had been recorded under the president’s transformation agenda. 1) “The Education Ministry’s budget leaped from N235 billion last year to N427 billion this year, coming second to security. 2) “The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) must rid itself of the opposition and allow our children to return to their studies,’’ the statement signed by Suku Harry, Pat Douglas, Wesley George and Diepiriye Douglas said. 3) They said that the administration had established nine new federal universities, with three more scheduled to begin academic activities next year and that 10 private universities were licensed under the same period. 4) The group added that 90 nomadic/Almajiri schools have been completed out of 125 under construction, stressing that 10 out of 16 girl-child schools have also been completed. 3) According to them, 30 federal government colleges have been completely rehabilitated, while 20 out of the 62 e-libraries under construction in federal government colleges have been completed. 4) “Work has commenced in 11 states in the South on special vocational schools for the boy-child with 40 million textbooks and library resource materials provided to children in public schools. 5) “There are improvements in laboratories in the federal government colleges, one million teachers and basic education administrators have trained and employed with the deployment of 10,000 Mathematics and English language teachers,’’ they said. 6) The Kalabari Indigenes said they were alarmed that in spite of all the evidence at their disposal about the tremendous progress being made by the administration, some groups had published false and misleading information about the President’s transformation agenda. 7) “And in so doing, are disseminating false statistics of his administrative and political performance. In doing this they are aware that a lot more than reaches the eyes on newspapers have been done and that more is still in progress socio-economically for the grassroots communities of Nigeria. 8) “These ill-motivated publications bent on disrupting our peaceful co-existence have failed in their attempt to distract the president. 9) “A man born with extra-ordinary intelligence, calm in his demeanour, experienced in local and international politics is beyond the antics of his detractors,’’ the group stated. On electricity, they noted that power output had risen from 2,800 to 4,000 mega watts, saying that the comatose dams in the country had been refurbished and are now running at full capacity. 10) They, however, explained that to end the human sabotage of interruption of power supply, the president brought in the private sectors for effective management of generation, transmission and distribution of uninterrupted power supply. 11) Also on the transportation sector, the group said that a new national carrier would be launched in October, while the nation’s airports are witnessing massive re-modification and rehabilitation. 12) They added that a similar thing was being done on the roads, noting that about N125 billion had been approved for the rehabilitation of roads across the country. !3) They also commended the President for the establishment of a new army formation to tackle the Boko Haram insurgency in the north.
