President Ian #Khama has called on local authorities to revive community development and mobilisation initiatives so as to stop the heavy reliance on government. Addressing a meeting between his cabinet and Selebi Phikwe councillors earlier today, Khama said he was worried that community participation in development is waning. The president also expressed concern about reports of corruption in councils, especially on issues of recruitment and promotions as well as council staff colluding with suppliers to hike prices. He called on the councillors to strengthen anti-corruption committees and report all forms of corruption.
