President Jonathans Health Transformation Do you know that Nigerians now have higher Life Expectancy? Before President Jonathan (BPJ) the Life Expectancy of Nigerians at birth was 47 year. It has now increased to 52 years since GEJ became President. Other aspects of Nigerias health tranformed under President Jonathan could be summarized thus: 1. Nigeria Centre for Disease Control - ESTABLISHED 2. Capacity for Kidney transplant - STRENGTHENED with Lagos University Teaching Hospipial and University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital joining the league. 3. Community-based Health Insurance Scheme - ESTABLISHED in a number of communities in 12 states, thereby granting medical access to poor Nigerians. 4. Health Insurance Coverage - Before Jonathan was under 6%. Now over 8%, an increase of about 2%. 5. National Immunization Coverage - Before Jonathan was less than 40%. Now it is over 80%. 6. Guinea Worm disease - Affecting more than 800,000 yearly now ERADICATED. 7. Curriculum for the Training of paramedics - ESTABLISHED. 8. Under-5 Mortality was 157/1000 live births. Now REDUCED to 94/1000 live births. 9. Maternal Mortality ratio was 545/100,000. Now DOWN to 350/100,000, a drop of almost 50% in four years. 10. Malaria in children - REDUCED. 11. Type-3 Wild Polio Virus - For the FIRST TIME in the history of the country, there has not been any transmission of the virus for more than one year. 12. Life-Saving initiative - Under the Saving One Million Lives initiative, over 433,650 lives were saved from November 2012 to June 2013 through scaling up of six cost-effective interventions, including Maternal & Child health, nutrition, prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT) of HIV, provision of essential commodities, Malaria control, routine immunization and eradication of polio. HEALTH is WEALTH. Boko Haram and those who support them would rather you do not see these transformations. Like Governor Ngige did in Anambra State, President Jonathan has shown that government can transform the lives of the citizens for good.
