President Museveni commends the Late Kangaho for struggling for humanity, for helping resettle Rwandan refugees, 28th March 2014 President Yoweri Museveni has commended the late James Arthur Kangaho for his exemplary role in fighting to receive and resettle Rwandan refugees in Uganda in the 1960s. He paid tribute to Mzee Kangaho today at Bugolobi Church of Uganda during the funeral service of the deceased who died at the age of 84years. He was accompanied by the First Lady, Mrs. Janet Museveni. The late Kangaho was a Democratic Party Member of Parliament for Ankole South Constituency in the 1960s. President Museveni noted that when the Rwandans returned to their country after the liberation war, their country became closer to Uganda. He said that prior to this, there was no bus service linking Kampala with Kigali and not even with the neighboring D R Congo. He attributed the lack of communication facilities between Uganda and the two neighbouring countries to the different colonial masters in control in the past years. President Museveni commended the Bayombo clan members in Ntungamo for embracing education. He said that because of the education the late Kangaho and other Bayombo received, they were able to take charge during the colonial days. He told the gathering of mourners that the deceased was in parliament until Amin captured power. He said that the Rwandans who were helped in the 1960s turned out to be good people. He challenged the people to treat their neighbours well regardless of their backgrounds. He prayed for the soul of the late James Kangaho to rest in eternal peace. He reminded the gathering that the NRM has spearheaded the fight against tribal discrimination. The First Lady who is also the Minister of Karamoja Affairs, Mrs. Janet Museveni, thanked God for the life of the late Kangaho. She thanked the mourners for supporting the family during the mourning time. She thanked God for Mzee James Kangaho’s contribution towards the people of Ntungamo. She observed that he led a single life after the premature death of his wife Ruth. She noted that it is not easy for a man to live single after the demise of his wife. The Former President of the Democratic Party, Dr. Paul Kawanga Semwogerere, thanked the mourners and family members who turned up during the deceaseds time of need. He revealed that Kangaho was a gentleman during the Parliamentary campaigns and noted that he was harassed but persevered as a gentleman. The service was led by Rev. Captain David Serunjogi and the Vicar Rev. Bernard Bakunda. Rest in peace, Mzee Kangaho.
