President Obama (Today Dec. 17, 2014) Proudly the USA has supported democracy and human rights in Cuba throughout these five decades. We have done so primarily through policies that aim to isolate the island, preventing the most basic travel and commerce that Americans can enjoy any place else. Though this policy has been rooted in the in the best of intentions, no other nation joins us in imposing these sanctions, and it has had little effect beyond providing the Cuban government with a rational for restrictions on its people. Neither the American or Cuban people are well served by a rigid policy thats rooted in events that took place before most of us were born! These words certainly mark a change in tone that I have never heard used in previous discussions regarding US/Cuban relations. Should I dare to be hopeful? maybe not just yet, however, i am romantic enough to believe that this is a small step in the right direction.
