President UK officially opens African Unions C-10 meet, Says a huge portion of the UNs global constituency is unrepresented on UN Security Council Addressing the UN General Assembly in September this year, President Museveni called for reforms: the UN system needs reforms to reflect the new needs and realities in the World today. Reforms, President Museveni said, would form part of this years Uganda-led UN General Assembly Presidency. The African Union formed a committee of Ten (C-10) on UN Security Council reform, an issue of common concern to Africas leaders. Yesterday, President Uhuru Kenyatta opened the meeting of Foreign Ministers of the African Union Committee of Ten in Nairobi to, among others, push for representation of the collective will of all citizens in the world. Said: A huge portion of UNs global constituency is unrepresented & unheard in administration of global affairs Africa, which provides a large share of UNs security agenda has no voice in the Council We want a UN that is able to secure world peace in a time of unprecedented security challenges Inequality and lack of democracy in representation has led to inconsistencies, inefficiencies & marginalization The United Nations Security Council must be reformed to make Africa’s voice heard at the global body These reforms are inevitable if the UN Security Council is to be representative of the continent’s shared values Within the UN, the Security Council best exemplifies a structure that is not compatible with the current realities of the world The UN Security Council does not reflect the current world power distribution and geopolitical situation The Security Council’s small size, exclusive nature, its working methods & undemocratic nature, have become out of step with today’s demands These structural and normative issues obstruct the achievement of the UNs founding objectives and frustrates the advancement of its agenda We want a UN that is capable of securing world peace in a time of unique and unprecedented security challenges We want a conversation that is premised on the principle of equality and in an environment that allows every voice and view to be is heard
