President Xi: steel wall to thwart #terrorism Chinese President #XiJinping has called for walls made of copper and steel and nets spread from the earth to the sky, to defend against terrorist threats in northwest Chinas Xinjiang. Xi made the remarks at the second work conference on Xinjiang on Thursday. The two-day meeting was held in the wake of a series of deadly terrorist attacks in the region. The latest attack took place on May 20th in an open-air market in the regional capital Urumqi. Thirty-nine people were killed and 94 others were injured. Xi’s remarks also highlighted several points that he said were critical for long-term stability. -Protecting legal religious activities, while deterring illegal, extreme ones -Encouraging all ethnic groups to show mutual understanding and respect -Promoting good governance in the region which is vital to China
