Presidential election, a constitutional requirement: Maulana Fazalur Rahman PRESS RELEASE ISLAMABAD, July 16, 2013: Maulana Fazalur Rahman, the chief of JUI, has said that election for new President is constitutional requirement and it is the prerogative of the PML-N government to appoint its nominee taking allies on board. In a press release issued by his Spokesperson, Jan Achakzai, the Maulana said that in Pakistani democracy , the Prime Minister is the head of the government and the source of executive authority whereas President is the symbol of federation and the head of the state. He said that in the past presidency has been the subject of controversy and rumours. "However, this time the PML-N government has comfortable majority and Mian Nawaz Sharif is the head of the party and the Chief executive as well, the presidency will remain above any controversy", he observed.. He said that for strengthening federation, it is important that the next president comes from the smaller provinces. He hoped that the next president will remain neutral and serve the federation above party lines. End
