Presidential officials of Israel and Armenia are having intensive negotiations on recognition of the Armenian genocide in Turkey in 1915. The Armenian side proposed a plan, according to which Israeli President Reuven Rivlin will arrive in Yerevan in April 2015 as one of the world leaders to mark the tragic event. He will declare official recognition of the genocide carried out by the Turkish government in 1915. It is our moral duty to remember and remind of the tragedy that befell the Armenian people, who lost more than a million of its sons during the First World War, and we must not make this a political issue. I am aware of the sensitivity of this issue. But let us be clear: This is not an accusation of Turkey today or of the current Turkish government. “Whoever thought of the Final Solution got the impression that, when the day comes, the world will be silent, as it was about the Armenians. It is hard for me to forgive other nations for ignoring our tragedy and we cannot ignore another nation’s tragedy. That is our moral obligation as people and Jews.” -Reuven Rivlin, 10th President of Israel.
