Presidents as symbols: Obama is a symbol as much as a person. Thats the job he has, being a figurehead and a whipping boy. It comes with the Oval Office and the paycheck he gets. His motto is, Dont do anything stupid. Its better to do nothing or what we have been doing, rather than screw up. Our whole country is like this, it seems. The current President appears as a symbol for rhetoric, rules and protocols being substituted for action. This is largely perceived as the thing to do rather than have your mistakes come back to haunt you. Lordy, Im so opposite of that, and at the same time have an inordinate fear of screwing up. This is very personal to me. For a big world example, lets take ISIS. The conservatives use it for drumming up war against some threat from the outside to avoid questioning what we are doing here, and the President feeds it. But no one asks the hard questions about where ISIS came from or where the money goes and why. The vote for and against crossed party lines--a rare thing in DC. The Obamites accuse the questioners as being racists, and the conservative bots accuse the questioners of being leftist terrorist supporters. At a small world level, lets look at my own desk. It is covered with stuff that needs to be done, and I dont do it because Im afraid Ill make the wrong decisions or miss something I should have seen. This is a microcosm for my big world. Meanwhile many folks who want to work have no work to do but moving sand, paper and data for sub-subsistence levels of pay. They dont ask questions. Just move the sand. Their jesus doesnt ask questions. Just gives orders. Their jesus doesnt ask questions. Just gives orders. Meanwhile, the meme writers and Facebook philosophers can only repeat the lists of political memes they have without asking real questions and proposing real, creative, out of the box solutions. Instead, they just fit themselves into their preferred boxes of lists without connecting any of them. We do not question our symbols for it is forbidden to question that which is inside your box. People from one box do not people from outside their box to question their shibboleths, either. The theme is Dont do anything stupid.
