President’s message Welcome to Abidjan! Dear readers, ANOCA - TopicsExpress

President’s message Welcome to Abidjan! Dear readers, ANOCA is highly honoured that it will bring together, on 12 and 13 July this year, delegates to its 15th ordinary General Assembly. This is always a unique platform that affords representatives of various African NOCs the opportunity to discuss issues pertaining to the Continental Olympic Movement. Of course, this General Assembly will be the most important for our Association on the threshold of this new quadrennial. Beyond the usual warmth of the reunion, we shall have to discuss the future of our movement and renew its governing organs through democratic elections as is the case every four years. We shall thus converge on Abidjan, the famous hospitable and cosmopolitan city of Côte d’Ivoire, which for the very first time will be hosting this major consultative come together of our continental NOC administrators. NOC Côte d’Ivoire, which I head, is singularly proud to host various participants at this grand assembly of African Olympism. Our NOC hopes to live up to its billing as host of this General Assembly by providing the best conditions for successful deliberations and treating all participants with its traditional hospitality. Dear readers, by 31 May 2013, the ANOCA Secretariat General had received files from several candidates vying for various positions within our governing organs; our discussions should thus go on in a convivial atmosphere, in keeping with the Olympic spirit. Election results should be considered, not as a victory for one or many individuals, but as the triumph for Olympism. In fact, above and beyond personal passion and ambition, we are at the service of Olympism. We have taken moral commitments to foster its ideals and serve our youths; this must prevail. There is no gainsaying that the 15th ANOCA General Assembly billed for Abidjan shall consolidate unity and help improve the management of the African Olympic Movement; it shall, by the same token, help define and coordinate our joint efforts during the quadrennial just beginning so that we can offer the youths of our Continent the best platform to display their sporting talents. It will be my utmost pleasure to host you in Abidjan and I call on all of you to take active part in the discussions and contribute with all your experience and expertise to take decisions that will be most beneficial to African sportsmen and women, NOCs and our Olympic Movement as a whole, wherein they are frontline players. Intendant General Lassana Palenfo, ANOCA President
