Location: Phoenix Police Department Headquarters 7th Ave and Jefferson (Sidewalk) Re: Recently Phoenix Police Chief Daniel Garcia declared in front of Mexican Consulate Roberto Rodriguez that his police force will continue enforcing SB1070 because it is the law. The Mexican Consulate instead of protesting racial profiling against Mexican Citizens urged Mexican people to cooperate with the police in reporting crimes. The Phoenix police department officers have the discretion to take away cars and report people to ICE who they suspect of not having legal documentation to reside in the U.S. The pretext utilized for stopping brown looking Mexicans is that “undocumented” can not legally obtain an Arizona Driver’s License and the license plates showed an owner who had no driver’s license. What Chief Garcia doesn’t tell his police officers is that they also have the discretion to ignore unjust laws. Some officers have chosen instead to unleash terror on Mexican communities within the City of Phoenix. Members of the Barrio Defense Committees will hold a press conference Friday to explain the reason they will be marching on Saturday. We invite the public in general to put a stop to highway robbery and terror on our communities.
