Press Conference Ministerial Network for the ICC goes public NEW YORK – On 26 September, 23 ministers from all over the world will adopt a declaration of commitment to the International Criminal Court (ICC) and pledge to actively support it in times of need. At a press conference, the foreign ministers of Botswana, Costa Rica (tbc), Italy, Liechtenstein, Slovakia and Switzerland will present the Informal Ministerial Network for the ICC, a group of 23 ministers engaged in supporting the work of the ICC. The ministers will present different strategies of the group to strengthen the position of the ICC in times where this indispensable instrument in the fight against impunity has come under vociferous, highly political and often unfounded attacks. In a private meeting earlier on 26 September, the ministers will adopt a declaration of commitment to the ICC. In the declaration, the ministers recognize the ICC as a cornerstone of the international peace, security and rule of law architecture. They also agree on 12 areas in which action is required to support the ICC in discharging its mandate. The Informal Ministerial Network for the ICC was founded in September 2012 by the foreign minister of Liechtenstein, H.E. Ms. Aurelia Frick. 23 ministers take part in this network, which seeks to inform members of political threats to the ICC and coordinate their responses. The purpose of the network is to give the ICC the political backing it needs to continue to deliver high-quality justice in an impartial and independent manner for the victims of the most serious crimes under international law.
