Press Release, 16 April 2014 Committees on European Affairs of the national Parliaments of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland support the need to provide Ukraine with a clear prospect of EU membership The Committees on European Affairs of the national Parliaments of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland support the need to provide Ukraine with a clear prospect of EU membership. This was confirmed in the Statement on Ukraine adopted by the Chairmen of the parliamentary Committees on European Affairs of the four said countries in their meeting in Trakai on 13–14 April 2014. “MEETING OF THE DELEGATIONS OF THE COMMITTEES ON EUROPEAN AFFAIRS OF THE NATIONAL PARLIAMENTS OF ESTONIA, LATVIA, LITHUANIA, AND POLAND Vilnius, 13–14 April 2014 STATEMENT ON UKRAINE Welcome the conclusions of the Inter–Parliamentary Conference for the Common Foreign and Security Policy and the Common Security and Defence policy, dated 3–4 April 2014; Strongly urge the Russian Federation to immediately de-escalate the crisis by withdrawing troops from the Ukrainian territory, including Crimea and its border, to recognize the interim government in Ukraine as a legitimate government, and to engage in a bilateral dialogue; Call on the Ukrainian authorities, all political parties and the civil society to continue a genuine dialogue and remain uninvolved in provocations seen as efforts to further escalate instability; Support Ukraine’s on–going efforts to strengthen its political and economic association with the EU and support the need to provide Ukraine with a clear prospect of EU membership; Call on the Hellenic Parliament to include into the LI COSAC agenda the point on Eastern Partnership as it was agreed during the last COSAC Chairpersons meeting in Athens, and to invite the delegation of Ukrainian authorities as well EU officials to participate in the LI COSAC”.
