Press Release Blatant Violation of Election Commission’s directions by Akali Dal ministers in Talwandi Sabo by-elections, AAP candidate attacked. Today Aam Aadmi Party leaders, Mr. H.S. Phoolka, Senior Advocate, Mr. Ashutosh and Mr. Sanjay Singh, met the Deputy Election Commissioner, Mr. Umesh Sinha, in-charge of Punjab in Election Commission of India, and submitted a representation regarding the blatant violation of Election Commission directions by the Akali Dal ministers in Talwandi Sabo (Punjab) by-elections. The representation is regarding the presence of Akali Dal ministers and workers in the assembly constituency area even though the Election Commission had directed the outsiders to leave the constituency area before 5:00 P.M on 19th August. Polling for the by-elections In Talwandi Sabo is scheduled to be held on 21st August The representation also mentions about the incident of an attack on the AAP candidate from Talwandi Sabo, Prof. Baljinder Kaur by the Akali Dal leader and SGPC member, Mr. Dyal Singh Koliawali. Today morning, Prof. Baljinder Kaur was attacked by Mr.Koliawali and other workers of Akali Dal with arms and sharp edged objects after she requested them to stop canvassing in view of the Election Commission’s direction that no campaigning is to be done after 5:00 P.M, 19th August. Prof. Baljinder Kaur’s driver is badly injured and admitted in the hospital. Although, the administration and police have been informed about the incident, but no action has been taken against the Akali dal leaders and workers. Dyal Singh Koliawali is an outsider but he roams around freely in the area threatening the voters. AAP leaders have also provided the names of villages and areas where the Akali Dal ministers and leaders are still campaigning and influencing voters. The deputy election Commissioner has assured the AAP leader of taking immediate action against the violators and informed that he has instructed the Election Chief of Punjab to ensure that no outsider remains in the area.
