Press Release For Immediate Release Monday, December 15, 2014 Libertarian Party of Schuylkill County Opposes Water Fluoridation Today, the Libertarian Party of Schuylkill County released the following statement: The right to speak is chief among all others in the first 10 Amendments to our national Constitution. And along with the right that protects what comes out of our mouths, so too we have a natural right to choose what goes in, as well. For generations now, fluoridation of public drinking supplies has been touted as a public health benefit, and any that question that fact are ridiculed. This, despite massive amounts of evidence that fluoride is a potent poison, especially for those whose chemical sensitivity is acute, people such as young children, the elderly, and the already ill. If a person actually wants to use fluoride, it is readily available in toothpastes and rinses. But now, Schuylkill Havens Borough Council is pushing RE-fluoridation of the water! And worse, when protestors whose water (and health) is affected show up to speak against this ill-considered plan, they are denied the basic right to public political speech, solely because they do not live in Schuylkill Haven. If you are from Cressona or North Manheim Township, (also water customers of Schuylkill Haven), you are not even granted your First Amendment right to speak at their council meeting. So what if you are a paying customer of their water? Who cares if you are a neighbor or relative with family that includes the very young, the very old, the very sick? They enjoy their legislative majority, so sit down and be quiet. These public officials who dictate to the People have betrayed their oath of office. During the recent meeting of the Libertarian Party of Schuylkill County, members voted unanimously to oppose Schuylkill Haven’s decision to fluoridate the water supply. We feel it is forced medication without consent, a grave civil liberty violation, an unnecessary liability, and a waste of taxpayer funds.
