Press Release Jan 22, 2014 - San Jose CA. Fit For Speed is proud to announce their latest addition to their MotorSport Athlete list, Mario Bonfante of Keep Em Spinnin Racing. Mario has been involved in racing for most of his life, from BMX, to Motocross to finally attaining his pro license in Road Racing when he turned 16. In September of 2006 unfortunately, Mario crashed on a bicycle doing some dirt jumps and broke his neck. Mario is now physically a c5-c6 quadriplegic. Mentally, Mario is still the same guy as he was before he got hurt, just has to do things done a little differently now. Mario has started training with Isaac Gredinberg (co-owner Fit For Speed) who says I cant believe how much heart and talent Mario has, I am looking forward to big things to come and seeing Mario progress in his fitness goals. Mario is an incredible racer with so much talent. His attitude and drive is really an inspiration! Mario had aspirations of going on to becoming one of the top competitors in that face paced sport and committed himself to eating, sleeping and training racing for success ever since he was a young child. A major injury at the young age of 17 not only brought his motorcycle racing career to a sudden stop, but also left him now unable to fulfill his life long dream that he had worked so hard at, which was to race and do what he loved for a living.. Mario Bonfante says: Since I started training with Isaac at Fit For Speed my strength and endurance continue to double after every session! He pays extreme attention to form and detail and in turn muscles I had no use or control over post injury are beginning to fire and come back to life. His professional approach and complete understanding of the human anatomy is exactly what I need to be able to go out and push the limits on and off the track as well as to help stimulate my personal progression after my injury. I cant thank him enough for what hes done and I look forward to seeing how far we can push realities boundaries this season! The car Mario have chosen to build for this season is a 2002 BMW E46 M3 SMG. The M3s SMG paddle shifted transmission will give him the optimal platform to construct his custom handcontrol set up off of. This system will allow Mario the ability to apply the throttle, brakes, upshift and down shift all while keeping his hands on the wheel. The car will be purpose built to race in NASAs GTS-3 class which is a power to weight ratio regulated class that only allows German or foreign cars such as BMWs, Porsche, Audi, etc... The car has to be at a race weight of a 11:1 power to weight ratio. Mario is still working out the setup details but thinks once its all done, they will have a championship contending car. From the Keep Em Spinnin Racing’s website: Keep Em Spinnin Racing’s main objective is to equip a hand full of vehicles with different control accommodations for differently abled individuals, from injured athletes, to veterans or anyone that may have been born with any different physical abilities. We would like to offer the opportunity to those that desire still to not only drive, but drive and safely maneuver their vehicle at exhilarating speeds around a race track. It will basically be a membership based latter program that we hope to have most, if not all of the expenses offset by title sponsors. We would like to present the opportunity free of charge to the individual to come out to the track, feel like a pro, and partake in literally rewriting realities laws and whats believed to be possible. We would like to be able to provide an opportunity for those that have the desire to drive, but havent been given the proper tools needed to do so. This will not only help them see what they are still capable of, but will also give them the confidence to go out and try new things they might not have thought possible before. We want to show them what is still possible and would like to be able to assist them in achieving what ever goal they set forth for themselves no matter what theyre abilities may be.
