Press Release Monday 21 OCTOBER 2013 RELEASE IMMEDIATE Spending power of Northern Ireland families demonstrates significant challenges - Overend Ulster Unionist Economy Spokesperson, Sandra Overend, has said that the results of Asda’s latest Income Tracker demonstrates the challenges which currently exist for families throughout Northern Ireland. The Mid Ulster MLA said; ‘Asda has today published its latest Income Tracker, which unfortunately shows that the spending power of Northern Ireland families is now around 2 ½ times lower than the average for the UK. Whilst in recent times we have been pleased to see falling unemployment rates and decreasing numbers of people claiming unemployment related benefits, this report shows that families here are still worse off than in the rest of the UK.’ ‘I am reminded of the evidence given by PwC to the Assembly’s ETI Committee that while a modest recovery is in fact underway, it may not feel like it. This report demonstrates that many families across Northern Ireland still face significant financial challenges.’
