Press-Release: NSF beats authorities supported ABVP, wins JURSEA elections hands down Sukhdev Singh President, Sunny Babber General Secretary Jammu: 17 Nov: Five of the six candidates put up by National Secular Forum (NSF) won the elections of Jammu University Research Scholars Executive Association (JURSEA) despite all efforts by authorities to scuttle their chances of victory. NSF defeated 5 candidates of ABVP in straight contest while the only NSF candidate who lost was more because of luck and less because of the votes cast in her favour. Sukhdev Singh, who is research scholar of Urdu Department, won the election for the post of President of JURSEA by a margin of 6 votes. He defeated his nearest rival and ABVP candidate Lokvinder Singh, a research scholar of Geography Department. Jyoti Bala won the elections for the post of Vice-President. Sunny Babber defeated ABVP candidate Kulveer Singh for the post of General Secretary. Manzoor Ahmed defeated ABVP candidate for the post of Joint Secretary. Post of treasurer was bagged by Gopal Singh of NSF. He defeated Varun Slathia of ABVP by 2 votes. There was tie between Syed Shehna and one Dalip Singh for the post of Organizing Secretary. Singh was declared winner by draw of lots. State President of ABVP Dr. Varinder Koundal who is Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics and General Secretary of JUTA made all efforts to ensure victory of ABVP candidates but failed miserably due to NSF’s close rapport with University scholars. They choose to elect Sukhdev over the ABVP candidate for the fact that NSF has held principals of secularism and equality highest. NSF has vowed to continue working for the welfare of students and ensure that their needs and demands get highlighted in the best possible way. NSF leadership has credited the victory of Sukhdev to efforts made by scholars and students to strengthen its hands in Jammu University. It has said that authorities played strange drama for the last three days with the team which has won, forcing them to agitate before Raj Bhawan for their legitimate rights. NSF has said that the authorities tried their best to help ABVP but were failed by scholars who stood up by NSF and its leadership. It has further said that the organization would soon unmask all those elements who tried to stifle the voice of students.
