Press Release This month Middlesbrough’s Gallery TS1, located on Corporation Road, is collaborating with International Eco Artist Wren Miller. ‘This Way Up’ is a project which brings together artists and their communities in the promotion of imaginative upcyling, recycling and sustainable living. Arts workshops will be offered alongside an exhibition which opens on 20th of June in the gallery, and activities will run in various venues across Middlesbrough. Wren Miller is director of a small charity ‘Send a Book to Mali’. Having travelled and worked there witnessing first-hand the dire shortage of educational materials in this amazing country, Wren has recruited Malian goodwill ambassadors to support the distribution of upcyled children’s books to schools. She has created a book sculpture of a ship within the window of Gallery TS1 and invites people to please donate any children’s books they can. Suitable books will be sent to Mali, with all the books used in the creation of the boat sculpture once the exhibition is over. For the accompanying exhibition any artist can submit their work so long as it uses Upcycled or Recycled materials. Best be quick though as the deadline of Sunday the 16th June is fast approaching. Gallery TS1 want to raise awareness of local community interest company, PERCY. 2 Carcut Road PERCY rescues materials of all kinds from landfill and supplies a huge range of recycled objects for artists, craftspeople, and educators to use creatively. The Exhibition opens on Thursday 19th. The newly opened Bobby’s Café Pizza next door to the gallery will be helping out at the preview event for the exhibition with some lovely vegetarian food. To enter the exhibition please do call Wren’s contact number 07866 007454 and email beinwren@gmail Or send images by email and upload onto the dedicated This Way Up Facebook page. https://facebook/ThisWayUpUpcycledAndRecycledArt
