Press Statement; NANS reject Wale Omole’s appointment as Lautech Pro-chancellor “The only thing for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing”~EdmundBurke said. Consequent upon the above inspirational and stirring affirmation of the revered and a-never-seen-before political scholar, the National Association of Nigerian students (NANS), as a responsible organization that values, cherishes and treasures the welfare and Fundamental Human Rights of her members, wish to unconditionallyreject the recent appointment of an anti-students, war-monger and inconsequentialfigure, Professor Wale Omole as the Pro-chancellor and chairman, Governing Council of Ladoke Akintola Akintola University (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Oyo State by the Governors of Oyo and Osun States respectively, Abiola Ajimobi and Rauf Aregbesola (Governors of the two States thatowns the institution). For the sake of perspicuity, and as a result of all the accessiblefacts at our disposal, we wish to inform the general public and all security agencies that Professor Wale Omole, while serving as the Vice-Chancellorof the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, precisely on the 10th of July, 1999, sent some cultists to kill the then General Secretary of the OAUSUG, George Ewilade and four other comrades over their consistent, persistent and relentless intellectual and objective attacks of his inglorious, ignominious and ignoble administration.Omole killed, maimed and disfigured many students Union Activists when he was in saddle. Omole imperiously, haughtily, officiously, high-handedly and satanically ruled and used power in OAU even more than the likes of the former Nigerian maximum ruler, Sanni Abacha, Idi Amin of Uganda and SamuelDoe of Liberia. We make bold to say without any fear of intimidation that Wale Omole is a criminal camouflaging as a gentle man. Omole is intolerant of criticism; and most significantly, he is a personality without conscience and fear ofGod. It should be recalled that our highly respected Leader, Lanre Arogundade, the OAUSUG President when Ewinlade George was killed by men of the under-world, had in last week, rejected without condition, the appointment of Omole as Lautech Pro-Chancellor.Omole, as far as Nigerian students are concerned, is a personal non-grata. In light of the above, the leadership of NANS under Yinka Gbadebo, in order to forestall what happened in OAU in 1999 to repeat itself in Lautech, wishes to call on Governor Abiola Ajimobi and our indefatigable Comrade, Rauf Aregbesola, and the Inspector General of Police, M.D Abubakara, to quickly address the following demands within 14 days; 1. Immediate removal of Wale Omole as Pro-chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council of Lautech, 2. Immediate arrest of Wale Omole for questioning and prosecution over the killing of Ewinlade George and his colleagues. Finally, we wish to state categorically that we will make Lautech ungovernable if wale Omole is not relieved of his appointment as Lautech Pro-Chancellor after 14 days starting from today. Justice delayed is justice denied! Ewinlade George must not die in vain! We pray for the souls of our valiant comrades to continue to rest peacefully on the bosom of our dear lord; Amen! Yinka Gbadebo, President, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).
