Press Statement by MCA Central Committee member and Deputy Chairman of MCA Publicity Bureau Sdr Loh Seng Kok Auditor General Report - Pakatan is a pot that calls the kettle black Pakatan leaders obviously are suffering from the “ostrich syndrome” of self-delusion. They criticise the federal government for inappropriate use of funds but in reality, Pakatan-helmed states encounter the same incidents of funds mismanagement. According to the 2012 Auditor-General’s Report, it was reported that 21 recipients of Selangor’s “Program Hadiah Anak Masuk Universiti had received more than one payment. Poor management had also caused some recipients to receive their payments 3 years late. Moreover, apparently RM8.23million is still owed to Selangor’s student loan foundation. The Auditor General Report shows that under Pakatan rule, the Selangor State Investment Centre (SSIC) had within 3 years, spent the balance of the government funds by issuing 3 to 4 months bonus to staff. The SSIC-declared bonus for employees from 2009 to 2011 is equivalent to three years’ expenses totaling RM887,620. The Auditor General Report also highlighted Pakatan mismanagement and weak implementation too. While Pakatan criticizes BN over the Auditor General Report, in truth Pakatan’s state governments must also accept that they too have mismanagement of funds. I wonder whether Pakatan will accept responsibility by probing these abuses of funds in Selangor and whether or not their special SELCAT committee still exists. If so, Selcat should then be used by Pakatan to monitor Selangor’s public expenditures from their own end instead of only depending on the federal government. Failure to do so will only prove that Pakatan only knows how to talk and blame others. Pakatan members will always pin blame on the federal government, discounting the fact that they did not rule the state governments overnight, yet still cannot overturn the problems to achieve the desired results. However, seeing that Pakatan too has shortcomings in ruling state governments, how can it rule the federal government? Lim Guan Eng had proposed a high powered committee to oversee Auditor General’s recommendations comprising the Deputy Prime Minister, Opposition leader and the Auditor General to identify irregularities highlighted in the Auditor General’s Report for action to be taken. This proposal by Guan Eng is none other than a public relations exercise because even as the Penang Chief Minister, he is unable to come up with a qualified explanation. The dilemma exists in name only. Loh Seng Kok Member of MCA Central Committee Member of MCA Presidential Council Deputy Chairman of MCA Publicity Bureau / END
