Press Statement for Immediate release 25 October 2014 The three people in custody for vandalizing O.R Tambos Statue in the Eastern Cape should be charge with treason. This month we commemorate the Late Cde O.R Tambo a founding father of the ANC Youth League. He was a revolutionary of our countrys struggle for liberation. The action of those who vandalized his statue is unacceptable and uncalled for and should be charged with treason as an attack on the legacy of O.R Tambo is an attack on what he was able to help us achieve as a country, democratic state. I call on the NPA to charge these three with treason as there actions are an attack on our democracy and our country struggle history which cant and never will be erased. There is no excuse or reason and none should be tolerate to justify the action, they must face the full might of the law. The State along with the ANC in the Eastern Cape and country should oppose bail. I call on the ANCYL in the Eastern Cape and the incoming President of the ANCYL Cde Lamola to ensure they support the state to ensure that justice prevails and an example is made so no-one will ever again think to violate the legacy we seek to learn from in taking forth the struggle for economic freedom in our lifetime. Their actions are that of enemies of the state and therefore they should be treat as such. Roscoe Jacobs is a former ANCYL branch Chairperson in Hout Bay, Cape Town. He is an activist in the working classes struggle for access to land. A supporter of Ronald Lamola for ANCYL Presidency. Issued by ANCYL Activist Roscoe Jacobs For enquiries Sent from my iPad
