Press Statement from Datuk Seri Dr.S.Subramaniam (Deputy President - TopicsExpress

Press Statement from Datuk Seri Dr.S.Subramaniam (Deputy President of MIC) I am compelled to make some clarifications after a lot of misleading comments some quoting me have appeared in the Press recently. My approach to the current issues afflicting MIC have always been consistent. I have repeatedly stated my intention to work jointly with the President in finding a solution to the current MIC crisis. I have stated that publicly and have made great efforts to meet the President to enable identifying solutions to the current problem. I had wanted to meet him before the CWC meeting of the 18th of December I had text the President and he agreed to meet me at 8.30 am at a hotel in Putra Jaya on Wednesday 17th Dec. I waited eagerly with great hope at the place from 8.30 till 9.10 am but he did not turn up for reasons best known to him. Later I again requested to meet him on the 7th of January. He again agreed to meet after the cabinet meeting. That meeting also did not materialize. Subsequently we happened to meet at cabinet where we exchanged a few statements ,where I once again reiterated the need to find a holistic solution to the problem and my willingness to work together to solve this problem in line with the ROS decisions. The President only raised his concern on the need to have 2 elections, one in 2015 and another in 2016 but did not share his views on how he intended to solve this problem. I had reflected that discussion in a subsequent press conferance. My stand was consistent that the President had announced the setting of a Joint committee on the 18th ,and that the committee should discuss and outline the processes needed to find a solution to this problem. The ROS has made its decision clear in its letters of the 5th of December and 6th of January defining the problems identified in the CWC and Vice Presidential election, and in some divisions and branch elections, hence raising questions on the legality of their current status and emphasizing on the need to rectify the mistakes. Looking at recent developments it appears evident that the President will not stick to what he announced on the 18 th. of December. I dont think the Committee will be formed and consequently the window for discussions can be deemed to have been closed. Since the ROS letters of the 6th of January I have been told that further reports have been made, many involving Branches, making the situation even more difficult. There have been reports in the Press about some imaginary conversations between me and the President written by some highly imaginative journalists. I want to re emphasis that many of my attempts to meet the President for detailed discussions have failed miserably except for our cursory meetings at cabinet meetings. The ROS has given its views very clearly and firmly. We are guided by its views in rectifying the mistakes and save the Party. The Party leadership has a important role in analyzing why this whole episode happened and take actions both punitive and otherwise to prevent this from happening again.
