Press advisory (17 April 2014) Dear news editor, 1. 11 YEARS OF WAITING FOR JUSTICE! DEATH IN POLICE CUSTODY : ULAGANATHAN A/L MUNIANDY In reference to above matter, Suara Rakyat Malaysia (SUARAM) would like to invite all media friends to the press conference with the family members and lawyer. Ulaganathan Muniandy (19 years old) an Emergency Ordinance detainee was detained at Kajang Police Station since 15 May 2003 and had died suddenly in 21 July 2003 at Kajang Hospital. According to the Kajang hospital the cause of death cannot be determined while the family suspect foul-play. The family was rewarded with damages and High Court judgment on the civil suit found that the IGP, CPO Selangor, ketua Polis Balai IPD Daerah Kajang, and Govt of Malaysia liable for negligence. This year marks the 25th year of SUARAM’s existence in defending human rights in Malaysia.
