Press release 28 6 13 Kuldeep Rai Sharma, PCC Chief has met the Lt Governor today(on 28th June, 2013) and requested for enhancing age limit to the Assistant Professor as per the UGC norms and creation of regular posts for Assistant Professors. Sharma has brief that since our students are staying at farflung place from Mainland and lacking so many constraints, the students of the isles after getting required qualification for the post of Assistant Professors , most of them reach to the border line of the prescribed age limit as per the RR of AN Administration i.e. 35 years. Even if they are ready to serve as the Assistant Professors with in the prescribed age limit, they have to wait for their appointment for years and thus again the problem of age comes as a barrier. Under the circumstances, Sharma has requested to enhance the age limit of Assistant Professors to 40 years at par with the RRs of other Universities of mainland and or UGC. Sharma has also stated that as per his knowledge, instead of appointing permanent Assistant Professors for various streams in the colleges, services of Guest lecturers are being availed by the JNRM, Port Blair and MGGC, Mayabunder and stated that with a uncertain future these Guest lecturers cannot concentrate on their duties at par with the Parmanent lecturers of their status and thus requested to consider creating permanent posts for such Assistant Professors in both the colleges. Sharma has also stated that as per rules, the interview for the posts of Assistant Professors are being conducted by UPSC which advertises the vacancy at all India level and many candidates from mainland also compete with the local candidates and naturally, those candidates from mainland perform better in the interview than the local candidates since prior to attending the interviews they have already achieved good experience at mainland where many facilities are widely available to them to acquire good experience in the field, and are selected to such posts leaving our candidates again to wait for further such interview and get frustrated. He has also stated that after getting wide experience as Assistant Profs in our colleges, most of the mainland based candidates resigns from the posts and proceed to mainland keeping behind vacant posts for which again a long procedures are being initiated. Hence Sharma has requested for finding out a way so that interview for only local candidates may be conducted through UPSC. Sharma has stated that Lt Governor’s such consideration will fill more inspiration in the local youths to opt for such a noble jobs of educating the college students.
