Press release EPU supports call for international police presence at crash site MH17 Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte has asked countries that have lost citizens in the MH17 air crash to support his initiative for an international police force to be sent to the crash site. The European Police Union (EPU) was asked for its stance towards this initiative. The chairman of the EPU, Gerrit van de Kamp, declared on behalf of all affiliated police unions that the EPU supports the initiative. The aim of the international police force is to assist in the repatriation of victims and their personal possessions, and to secure the crash site so an independent investigation can be carried out into the cause of the crash. Besides repatriating the victims and their possessions, it is very important to find out exactly what happened. This is something the international community owes to the innocent victims, their families and friends, and everyone who has been affected by the plane crash, states chairman of the EPU, Gerrit van de Kamp. “We have presented Prime Minister Ruttes proposal to all police trade unions affiliated to the EPU. Our members, from countries including the Netherlands, Spain, Serbia, Germany, Ukraine, Moldova and Romania, have given their full backing to this initiative. However, the EPU emphasises that, should this mission take place, appropriate measures must be taken to ensure the safety of all officers”. For more information please contact: [email protected].
