From the beginning of the rally when popular Fuji musician, Mr. Saheed Osupa kicked off the event with praise songs for Buhari and Osinbajo, to the end of the rally, Ekiti people kept pouring into the pavillion. Not even the late arrival of General Buhari at 1.50pm discouraged the teeming crowd from trooping in and singing praise songs of change and Buhari continuously. In his address to the audience, APC National Leader and former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu said: “Today we meet in joy, it will not turn to sadness. Ekiti will not be behind.” He spoke further: “Our candidates, General Mo hammadu Buhari and Prof. Yemi Osinbajo are here to change your future to a more glorious one, from hunger, unemployment, poverty and other evils. This generation is for you the youths, you cannot continue with this policy of failed promises. Somebody here told you in some newspaper advertisements that somebody is too old to govern. We need the wisdom of elders at the time of crisis. It is because they have no respect for elders and I pray they grow old. He is using seven people to run the government, I thank you the APC lawmakers in Ekiti, Honourable Adewale Omirin, we will stand by you and you will not suffer. We need change on our security challenge, our missing schoolgirls, and our people being displaced. Don’t worry we have programmes for the farmers; cocoa will come back. They have no sense, no common sense to turn around Nigeria. Ours is a common sense revolution, go and pick your PVC; they cannot change the date of the election. It’s our right to vote.” Welcoming Honourable Michael Opeyemi Bamidele back to the party, Tinubu said: “We must bring our children back to the fold, we have forgiven MOB, and brought him back home.” In his remarks, the APC vice-presidential candidate, Professor Yemi Osinbajo noted that the “PDP people are afraid because the time for change has come, that is why they want to postpone the election. The reason why so many are unemployed is corruption, Buhari will stop corruption; he asks questions. Nigerians want him and Ekiti also wants him. After voting, remain there until results are counted and after that is done, we would have signed for change.” When it came time to address the teeming crowd, Buhari, corroborated Osinbajo’s statements and identified three major areas he would touch to bring about change if voted in, naming them as insecurity, unemployment and corruption: “If we want to save ourselves and country, we have to send the PDP packing. APC is determined to give you these three things I have mentioned. Keep your permanent voter cards (PVC), vote on election date and ensure that your vote counts,” he said. Former Ekiti State governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi thanked the people for showing what Ekiti people really want and stated the history of June 21 would not show up again in February 14 poll. In a related development, in Akure, the Ondo State capital, the APC presidential campaign team com prising Buhari, Osinbajo, Tinubu, Aregbesola, among other notable chieftains of the party took turns to flay the ruling PDP and urged Nigerians to vote out the party, which they said represents corruption and maladministration. The APC leaders noted that the PDP government had brought untold hardship to Nigerians and as sured that the APC would bring about change into the country’s polity if voted into power in the Feruary 14 presidential election. Specifically, Tinubu debunked the claims being bandied about by the PDP that the party’s candidate was too old to rule the country. He cited some prominent world leaders including the late Nelson Mandela, who ruled their countries at over 70 years of age, saying that age has nothing to do with efficiency and leadership. He also said that the former Ondo State governor, late Chief Adekunle Ajasin ruled the old Ondo State at over 70years of age, saying that the legacies of his administration remained reference points for successive administrations in the state till date.
