PressPakistan debate Hi all, I was expecting that being a responsible office holder, secretary press club will take time out to read the total objections so far filed. These are of course not 50 but about 400 (details on Jago Press Club FB page). This clearly shows that the so called scrutiny committee was a rubber stamp and not independent enough to take decisions. Is the secretary ready to swear on oath that there are no non-journalist elements? If he is wrong is he willing to leave club politics? The types of people given membership in NPC were described by me in another thread of this group discussion from where the secretary club has run away. Secondly, I have lot of respect for senior journalists and I am sure they will not feel being wronged if given life time membership beyond club politics especially when it is in accordance with the constitution. The secretary press clubs concern about some of these senior journalists honour is best reflected in his own article published in Daily Nai Baat dated 10 sep 12. As regards the board membership of NGO, these are honorary, unpaid, voluntary positions accepted by professional journalists across the world. There are examples of senior journalists in Pakistan being on the board of media, journalism and educational institutions. Of course they have to be well educated and experienced in the field apart from being the press club member only. But how can someone justify Senior NGO full time employees being given council membership? We should not hide behind big journalistic names to cover up for our corruption and corrupt practices. Let us be frank, if only public funds and plots were not the attraction and a way to make big money for club management, no one would have cared defending illegal memberships of the NPC. In fact saving public funds and money is the only reason Jago is fighting this unpopular battle, which is of course very popular among professional journalists. I respect people so I don want to name , but biggest crusader against Ngo is himself is memebr bord of drectors of a Ngo.
