Preston here: Dreams, dreams, dreams… Found this incredible log cabin dated 1873 and I simply fell in love with it. It’s mostly yellow pine and since it was covered with siding for most of it’s life it is in wonderful shape. I keep thinking about the man who built it just a short time after the Civil war, how true the hewing is, how well joined the notches are, how graceful the building sits…I think about the pans of cornbread, the salted pork, the food that was served inside it, the second story bedroom that housed husband, wife and the children they created together. What I wouldnt give to see this log home, for that’s what it was, set up slap dab in the middle of Turtle Island for everyone to enjoy, to honor the maker of this wonderful building. This building is for sale for $15,000 and for me to purchase it is just not realistic. But I just keep thinking that there might be a Turtle Island supporter who might could make this dream a reality. If this cabin came to Turtle Island I would design, supervise and build a wrap around porch, and roof. Eustace would provide the land and materials for a historically correct restoration.
