Presumably, we all want a better Nigeria, but better means - TopicsExpress

Presumably, we all want a better Nigeria, but better means different things to a people consisting of 250 tribes. Hence, when we say we want a Better Nigeria, we must first agree on what we mean by better. As far as President Jonathan and his Cabinet are concerned, Nigeria does not need to be better. It is. Executive Governors of the respective States too may share the same paranoia or may not, depending on political parties. Maybe the Federal Government Contractors too might come to the same conclusion, afterall his bank accounts are fatter than yokosuna. So, when we say better, how should better be measured? Is it by individual successes? Is it by a few ethnic prosperity? Or is it by a few national testimonies and honours? Should our private appetites qualify for a better naija? I have bad news for us. There will not be a better as long as we celebrate sectional, ethnical or private appetites. This is sadly all i see around me. Everyone wants to hammer at all cost. Others can burn for all they care. And others include posterity- our unborn Nigerians. This is why political ideologies like stomach infrastructure would become acceptable slogan. Our appetites are our first consideration and yet expect a greater good to emerge. How optimistic and delusional. Lets be so hungry for change to the point that our appetites are swallowed in its quest. Olakunle Allison
